Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large head green cabbage
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup finely diced yellow onion
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (15 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup cooked white rice
  • 1 large egg
  • Fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and spray a large baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Boil water in a large pot; remove the core from the cabbage and boil for 4–5 minutes until leaves are pliable.
  3. Carefully peel off about twelve leaves and let them drain.
  4. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat; sauté diced onion until softened, then add minced garlic.
  5. Stir in tomato sauce, crushed tomatoes, sugar, salt, and pepper; simmer for 10–15 minutes.
  6. In a bowl, combine ground beef, cooked rice, onion, garlic, egg, parsley, paprika, salt, and pepper; mix well.
  7. Assemble rolls by placing filling on each cabbage leaf; fold sides over and roll tightly.
  8. Layer rolls seam-side down in the baking dish; cover with sauce and bake for 60–75 minutes.
