  • 5 lb bone-in beef shoulder (excess fat removed)
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons cumin
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 onion (quartered)
  • 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup lime juice
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the beef by placing it in your slow cooker and making several shallow cuts across the surface.
  2. Rub the beef with chili powder, cumin, oregano, cinnamon, and salt. Place bay leaves and quartered onion on top.
  3. Mix minced garlic with orange or lime juice and pour over the beef along with chicken broth.
  4. Cover and cook on high for 5 hours or low for 8 hours until tender.
  5. After cooking, remove bay leaves and shred the meat using two forks.
  6. Spread shredded meat on a broiler-safe pan and broil for 5 to 7 minutes until crispy.
