Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound flank steak
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (extra for vegetarian alternative)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (or coconut sugar)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish
  • 1 cucumber for garnish
  • 1 cup jasmine rice

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together soy sauce, fish sauce, brown sugar, lime juice, garlic, black pepper, and red pepper flakes until well combined.
  2. Add the flank steak to the marinade, ensuring it’s fully coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat your grill or grill pan over medium-high heat and lightly oil the grate.
  4. Remove the steak from the marinade, letting excess drip off. Grill for about 5-7 minutes per side until medium-rare (130°F).
  5. Let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing against the grain into thin strips.
  6. Serve over cooked jasmine rice and garnish with fresh cilantro and cucumber slices.
