- 8 Granny Smith apples (sliced)
- 1 cup cold butter (diced)
- 2 ½ cups flour
- ½ cup sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup heavy cream
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- juice of ½ lemon
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- ¼ tsp allspice
- ¼ tsp salt
- 4 tbsp cornstarch
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Peel and slice the apples. Toss them with lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and salt in a large bowl.
- For the crust: Mix flour and salt in a bowl. Cut in cold butter until crumbly; gradually add ice water until dough forms. Divide into two disks and chill.
- Roll out one disk and place it in a pie dish. Fill with the apple mixture.
- Prepare the toffee sauce by melting butter with brown sugar, then stirring in heavy cream and cornstarch until thickened. Pour over the apples.
- Roll out the second disk for the top crust, place it over the filling, sealing edges.
- Brush with egg wash and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
