  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/3 cup packed light or dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • homemade salted caramel or store-bought caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (149°C) and line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine melted butter, granulated sugar, vanilla, and salt. Add flour and mix until combined; press into the prepared pan. Bake for 15 minutes.
  3. In a large bowl, coat sliced apples with flour, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. For the streusel topping, mix oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and flour in a medium bowl. Cut in cold butter until crumbly.
  5. Increase oven temperature to 350°F (177°C). Layer apples over the crust and sprinkle with streusel topping. Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden.
  6. Allow to cool at room temperature for 20 minutes; chill for at least two hours before cutting into bars.
