Description

Experience the delightful taste of homemade Apple Slices, a charming dessert featuring a sweet apple filling nestled between flaky layers of crust. Perfect for any occasion, these treats are not only easy to make but also highly versatile.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup non-hydrogenated lard
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 32 ounces apple dessert filling/topping
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons melted or softened butter
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons whole milk

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the lard until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Combine water, egg yolks, and lemon juice in a measuring cup and pour over the flour mixture. Mix gently with a fork until just combined.
  3. Roll half the dough into a jelly roll pan. Spread apple filling evenly over it.
  4. Roll out the remaining dough and place it over the filling; cut slits for steam vents.
  5. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and bake for about 40 minutes until golden brown.
